Come to experience the magic of printing and dyeing with natural, local products at our new ColourField workshop in Cardiff, with owner artist Catherine Lewis
Saturday 16th September: Yoga and natural eco dyed woollen meditation wrap.
Relax and create on this special one day course, combining the healing powers of plants with a yoga session to settle your being; inviting you into the present moment. Being in the moment draws us to meet and greet out creative self; to develop an awareness of our breath and a sense of the plant dyes and how they blend into the materials that we're using.
A Yoga practice will help us to limber the neck, shoulders and upper body so that we are comfortable and at ease whilst we are at work. We will ground and earth our energies through the use of standing postures and a couple of energising sequences.
After a drink and homemade cake, you'll go on to create your own beautiful soft and warming wool/silk wrap, patterned and dyed with plants known for their healing, medicinal properties, such as turmeric, rose, walnut, St. Johns wort and indigo... perfect for relaxation after yoga, meditation time or a chilly summer evening!
The day will end with a stretch and relaxation before returning home with your beautiful personal piece of work.
Rachel has been teaching Yoga for 17yrs. She brings an awareness of Self into practice and how we move with nature. Yoga is a celebration of our life and our movement and creativity that grows from within our own journey into ourselves.
*This class is £95, to cover the yoga class and the cost of the woollen wrap.
This class will be held in Bonvilston Reading Rooms, just outside Cardiff on the A48. 10.30 - 4.30
A one day workshop with me starts at just £65 including all materials and a simple home-made lunch of something like soup, fruit and cake. There are usually only 4 spaces per class, which makes it nice and intimate with plenty of time to talk and really understand the processes. The yoga/wrap day has 10 spaces and is £95 to cover the cost of the yoga teacher and the wool wrap.
To prepare for the workshops:
We will supply all materials and recycled/organic fabrics for you to sample. (The yoga includes an hour and half yoga session and a woollen wrap to dye). Of course you may also bring your own pre-washed personal items to transform such as fashion or small home goods. Ideas include napkins, a tee shirt, pillow case, a summer dress, linen trousers, scarves, a shopping bag or a table runner. The items don’t have to be white, in fact, some of the most interesting transformations happen on items originally with a print or other colour. Loved, gently used or stained items are also a great choice.
Check the labels of the items to make sure they are made from natural fibres such as cotton, bamboo, hemp, wool, linen, viscose or silk.
You need to wear clothing that you do not mind getting a drip or two of dye on!
